Transportation To Hospitals and Medical Centers

H&M Transport runs non-emergency medical transportation to hospitals and medical centers across Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Montgomery County and Prince George’s County. These pages cover the ones we write up in detail — how the trip works, what discharge looks like there, and what we need from you at booking.

Ambulatory, wheelchair, stretcher and bariatric service. Dispatch answers around the clock at (703) 304-7889. Facilities scheduling a discharge get a three-hour lead time, including for stretcher trips, and a booking made the day before is guaranteed.

We hold Virginia DMV Certificate #524 for trips in Virginia and WMATC authority 3449, which covers the District of Columbia, the Northern Virginia jurisdictions, and Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland. A trip that crosses a line runs on one booking with one carrier, and there is no surcharge for the crossing.

If your hospital isn’t listed

These are the destinations we’ve written up, not the limit of where we go. We also run regularly to Reston Hospital Center, StoneSprings, Dominion Hospital, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Kaiser medical centers across the region, Mary Washington and Stafford, UVA in Charlottesville, and across the river to MedStar Georgetown, George Washington University Hospital, Sibley Memorial and Howard University Hospital.

Long-distance medical transport out of the region is something we do routinely. If you don’t see your destination, call and describe the trip.

What we can’t take

Every hospital on this list gets the same rule from us: we carry people to scheduled care and home again, and the van is transport, not treatment.

We are not an ambulance service. There’s no monitoring on board, no ride to an emergency room and no move from one hospital to another for a higher level of care; those trips need an ambulance crew. If a rider becomes unwell, the driver stops safely and calls 911.

If this is a medical emergency, call 911.

If you can’t tell which kind of trip it is, describe it to dispatch; we would rather point you to 911 than send the wrong vehicle.
