Long-Distance Transport Reservations

  • SAME-DAY RESERVATIONS: Speak with a member of our team to expedite your request at (703) 304-7889.
  • NOTICE REQUIRED: We need a minimum of 3 hours’ notice for same-day requests and discharges, and we can cover most of them inside that window. Booking 24 hours ahead guarantees availability.
  • TRIP DETAILS: Please use the “Notes” section to notify our team about important trip details such as: Appointment type, estimated duration of your appointment (if you need our services for the return trip) and number of stairs entering/exiting your home (if you need assistance going up/down the stairs).
  • STAIRS: Please note, if you need to be transferred up or down stairs, the quoted price will increase by a minimum $75 each way due to additional personnel required for the trip.
  • WEIGHT: For patients over 300 lbs, select Bariatric Service.
  • ​CANCELLATION POLICY: We know life happens and sometimes appointments need to be canceled and/or rescheduled. We also know your time is valuable – and so is ours. Please cancel/change an appointment at least two (2) hours prior to the pick-up time to avoid fees. Changes/cancellations can be done through our mobile app, emailing us at Reservations@hmtransport.com or by calling (703) 304-7889.

Common questions about long-distance transport

How far will you actually go?
We regularly run trips well beyond the DC metro, including out-of-state moves. Call (703) 304-7889 with the origin and destination and we will quote it rather than guess.

Is it cheaper than an ambulance?
Substantially, for anyone who does not need clinical care en route. That is the whole point of non-emergency transport: an ambulance charges for a crew and equipment the rider is not using.

What about a rider who cannot sit up for hours?
That is a stretcher trip. We build in position changes and stops, and we plan the route around them.

Do you do overnight trips?
For long routes we plan driver hours properly rather than pushing through. Ask when you book and we will lay out the schedule.

Can a family member come?
Usually yes. Tell us when booking so we assign a vehicle with the seat and plan the stops accordingly.

What we cannot do

This is non-emergency transportation. We do not provide medical care or monitoring during the ride, we do not transport anyone to an emergency room, and we do not move patients from one hospital to another for a higher level of care. Those are ambulance trips.

If this is a medical emergency, call 911. If you are not sure which you need, call us and describe the situation — we would rather tell you to dial 911 than send the wrong vehicle.
