Our Fleet
H&M Transport’s vans are specially designed with our passengers safety and comfort in mind. 100% of our fleet is equipped with rear loading and specialized restraints which accommodate personal wheelchairs and power scooters.
Wheelchairs can be requested for transit use at no additional cost. Our wheelchairs have elevated leg rests as well as additional cushions.
Transportation for any Event or Appointment
Our wheelchair transport service helps our clients with wheelchairs and power scooters get to any appointment or event they may have. If you are a Virginia or Washington D.C. resident, we can help take you to your important appointments and personal events, including rides to the airport.

Our fleet is made for wheelchair transportation because we know that most other regular transportation services do not accommodate for clients with wheelchairs or power scooters. We ensure you ride comfortably and arrive to all of your important events on time!
Need to Borrow a Wheelchair?
If you don’t have your own wheelchair and you need one for your event, let us know when scheduling your wheelchair transport. We can provide you with a wheelchair at no additional cost for your transportation service.
Make sure you request a wheelchair by adding it to the notes on the booking page or by calling us before your scheduled transportation.
Wheelchair Transport Reservations
- SAME-DAY RESERVATIONS: Speak with a member of our team to expedite your request at (703) 304-7889.
- NOTICE REQUIRED: We need a minimum of 3 hours’ notice for same-day requests and discharges, and we can cover most of them inside that window. Booking 24 hours ahead guarantees availability.
- TRIP DETAILS: Please use the “Notes” section to notify our team about important trip details such as: Appointment type, estimated duration of your appointment (if you need our services for the return trip) and number of stairs entering/exiting your home (if you need assistance going up/down the stairs).
- STAIRS: Please note, if you need to be transferred up or down stairs, the quoted price will increase by a minimum $75 each way due to additional personnel required for the trip.
- WEIGHT: For patients over 300 lbs, select Bariatric Service.
- CANCELLATION POLICY: We know life happens and sometimes appointments need to be canceled and/or rescheduled. We also know your time is valuable – and so is ours. Please cancel/change an appointment at least two (2) hours prior to the pick-up time to avoid fees. Changes/cancellations can be done through our mobile app, emailing us at Reservations@hmtransport.com or by calling (703) 304-7889.
What door-through-door actually means
A lot of transportation is sold as “wheelchair accessible” when what is meant is that a ramp exists. That is not the same thing.
On our trips the driver comes to the door of the home, room or unit. They help the rider out, navigate the threshold and any steps, load the chair through the rear of the van, secure it to the floor, and at the other end walk the rider into the clinic and hand them off. The rider is never left at a curb to find their own way in.
If the rider has to be carried up or down stairs, we send a second crew member. Tell us the number of steps when you book — it changes the crew, not just the price.
Your chair or ours
Our vans are set up for personal wheelchairs and power scooters, so in most cases the rider stays in their own chair for the entire trip with no transfer.
If the rider does not own a chair, we will bring one at no additional cost. Our loaner chairs have elevated leg rests and extra cushions. Request one in the notes field when you book, or mention it when you call (703) 304-7889.
Common questions about wheelchair transport
Does Medicare pay for wheelchair transportation?
Traditional Medicare does not cover wheelchair van transportation. Some Medicare Advantage plans include a transportation benefit administered by a broker such as Access2Care or SafeRide Health; if yours does, book through the broker and ask for H&M Transport by name.
Can someone ride along with the passenger?
Yes. Tell us when you book so we assign a vehicle with the seat.
Can you take a power scooter?
Yes. Our restraint systems accommodate power scooters as well as manual and power wheelchairs.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Orders for the next business day should reach us by 4:00 PM the day before. For recurring appointments, a standing order is easier for everyone.
Do you go into Washington DC and Maryland?
Yes. We hold WMATC authority 3449, which covers the District, the Northern Virginia jurisdictions, and Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland.
