StoneSprings Hospital Center near Dulles picks up riders on the western and northern edge — South Riding, Brambleton and the Route 50 corridor out toward Loudoun.

Inova Fairfax Hospital takes the specialty care that Fair Oaks doesn’t: oncology, cardiac, transplant follow-up, the long treatment arcs. Those are the trips most likely to become a standing booking.

For riders on the western side, UVA Health Prince William Medical Center in Manassas is often the shorter run, and we’re there daily.

The Fair Oaks cluster carries a lot of the recurring volume — Fair Oaks Health & Rehabilitation, Brightview Fair Oaks and Sunrise at Fair Oaks are all within a few minutes of Inova Fair Oaks Hospital and each other, and a crew running one trip there often has another on the same loop.

Picking the right ride from Chantilly

The choice depends on how the rider moves on the day of the appointment.

Pickup in Chantilly and the western suburbs

This is single-family and townhouse country, and the pickup problems are different from the ones in a city.

Driveways are the good case — level ground, room for a ramp, no parking question. Where the driveway is steep, or gravel, or shared between two townhouses, tell us. A ramp needs level ground to deploy safely and a steep drive can mean parking on the street and covering the last stretch on foot.

Townhouse developments in South Riding, Brambleton and the newer Chantilly neighborhoods often have rear-loading garages and front doors that face a common walk rather than a street. A driver following GPS to the address can end up on the wrong side of the block. Tell us whether to come to the front walk or the garage side.

Distances out here are real. Chantilly to Inova Fairfax is not a long drive on paper and can be a long one at eight in the morning on Route 50 or the Fairfax County Parkway. We build that into the schedule rather than hoping. If your appointment is in the morning peak, expect us earlier than the mileage suggests.

Winter matters more here than closer in. An uncleared walk or an iced driveway changes how a ramp deploys and how safely a rider can cover the last few feet. If the weather has been bad, clearing a path to the curb before the vehicle arrives is the single most useful thing a family can do.

Stairs change the plan. Tell us the steps at the entrance and whether the inside stairway turns, and if a rider in a wheelchair has to come down them, the stair chair team comes for $75 each way.

Dialysis and standing orders

How to book and what it costs

Call (703) 304-7889 any hour, or book online. We need three hours’ notice for a same-day trip or a discharge; a day ahead guarantees the ride, and a call or text confirms it within two hours. Cancel or change free more than two hours before pickup, or it’s $50, as is a no-show.

Virginia Medicaid. Covered medical rides cost the member nothing and go through Medicaid instead of our booking line. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride. Rates. A wheelchair or ambulatory round trip is $55 a leg with five miles included, then $3.00 a mile, and a one-way trip or discharge is $90 plus $3.00 a mile. Stretcher round trips are $230 a leg. A wheelchair discharge from Inova Fair Oaks home to Clifton, about nine miles, is $90 plus $27: $117. Original Medicare doesn’t pay for these vans; a Medicare Advantage plan with a ride benefit run by MTM Health or SafeRide Health can route the trip to us. The full rate card is on our rates page.

Questions we get from Chantilly families

How early should I book a ride from Chantilly?

Three hours is our minimum for a same-day trip or discharge, and booking a day ahead guarantees it. Allow more for stretcher and bariatric trips or an early appointment inside the Beltway.

How does Route 50 traffic affect my pickup?

What our Chantilly vans don’t do

We’re a transportation company: we take people to scheduled care and back, and no medical care is given on the way.

That rules out monitoring or treatment on board, trips to an emergency room, and moves to another hospital for a higher level of care, which are ambulance trips. Scheduled transfers for stable patients, such as Fair Oaks to a rehab bed, are routine for us. If a rider becomes unwell, the driver stops safely and calls 911.
