Getting to UVA Health Prince William

Our Prince William riders come from Manassas, Manassas Park, Bristow, Nokesville, Yorkshire, Gainesville and Haymarket, and from the Woodbridge and Dale City side of the county.

Being close is the practical difference here. With drivers starting their day near Sudley Road, a same-day request from Manassas is often covered quickly.

The hospital campus includes outpatient and medical office buildings alongside the main hospital. Tell us the building and department at booking.

For riders on the western side, UVA Health Haymarket is often the shorter run, and we’re there daily too.

Discharge from UVA Health Prince William

Hospital trips here come in two kinds.

Discharges. A patient cleared to leave UVA Health Prince William heads home or on to a skilled nursing or rehab bed.

Scheduled arrivals. We bring riders in for an appointment, an infusion, imaging or an outpatient procedure, then collect them when they’re done.

Emergency room trips, and moves from Sudley Road to another hospital for a higher level of care, are ambulance work rather than ours.

Facilities get the same three-hour same-day minimum, stretcher included; a booking made the day before is guaranteed, and changes are free more than two hours before pickup.

Discharges from Prince William go to home addresses across the county and to nearby skilled nursing and rehab facilities: Manassas Health and Rehab, Birmingham Green, Annaburg Manor, Lake Manassas Health and Rehabilitation and Gainesville Health and Rehab. We run those transfers regularly.

What the floor should tell us: whether the patient can sit upright safely for the journey, home or facility, stairs at the destination, oxygen or equipment, and a realistic time.

Choosing the van for a Sudley Road trip

The vehicle follows how the rider moves, not the mileage to Sudley Road.

Ambulatory — for a rider who walks with a steadying arm; the driver helps at the front door and again at the hospital entrance.
Wheelchair transportation — the rider stays seated, rolled up a minivan ramp or onto a full-size van lift and held at four points before we move. No chair at home? We bring one.
Stretcher — for a patient who can’t sit up safely for the trip, such as a discharge to Lake Manassas; two crew members on every stretcher run.
Bariatric — over 300 pounds, with rated equipment and an extra crew member. These vehicles are fewer, so book early.

Unsure which fits? Describe the rider to dispatch and we’ll settle the vehicle with you before it’s sent.

Booking a Prince William ride

Dispatch picks up (703) 304-7889 at any hour. Same-day trips and discharges need three hours’ notice, a booking the day before is guaranteed, and a call or text confirms it within two hours. Changes are free more than two hours before pickup; later changes and no-shows are $50.

Cost and coverage. A wheelchair or ambulatory round trip is $55 a leg with five miles included each way, then $3 a mile; a one-way trip or discharge is $90 plus $3 a mile; stretcher is $230 a leg round trip. Our rate card and estimator are published, so you can price the ride before calling. Original Medicare doesn’t pay for these vans, but a Medicare Advantage plan whose ride benefit runs through MTM Health or SafeRide Health can send the trip to us. Medicaid members book through the plan first. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride.

When a Manassas trip is ambulance work

We drive riders to scheduled care at Prince William and home again. The van is transport, not treatment.

So there’s no monitoring on board, no ride to the emergency room and no move to another hospital for a higher level of care; those need an ambulance crew. If a rider becomes unwell, the driver stops safely and calls 911.

If this is a medical emergency, call 911.

If you can’t tell which you need, call and describe what’s happening; when it’s an ambulance trip, we’ll say so.

Common questions

How quickly can you reach UVA Health Prince William?

Often quickly. Several of our drivers start the day within fifteen minutes of Sudley Road, though a same-day trip still needs three hours’ notice.

Do you take patients from UVA Health Prince William to nursing or rehab facilities?

Yes, regularly. Local destinations include Manassas Health and Rehab, Birmingham Green, Annaburg Manor, Lake Manassas Health and Rehabilitation, and Gainesville Health and Rehab.

Can you pick up from the outpatient or medical office buildings at UVA Health Prince William?

Yes. The campus has outpatient and medical office buildings alongside the main hospital. Tell us the building and department at booking.

Do you also run to UVA Health Haymarket?

Yes, we’re there daily. For riders on the western side of the county, Haymarket is often the shorter run.

What if a Prince William appointment runs long?

Book the ride home as a will-call. Call dispatch shortly before the visit ends and a driver heads your way; if you can only call once you’re done, a driver reaches you within 45 minutes. Prescheduled wait time is $75 an hour for wheelchair trips and $100 an hour for stretcher.

Can you carry a Prince William patient on isolation precautions?

Yes, with notice. Tell us about C. diff, MRSA, COVID or other precautions at booking; the crew wears the protective equipment required and the van is disinfected afterwards. There’s an added charge, which dispatch quotes up front.

Does Virginia Medicaid cover a ride to UVA Health Prince William?

Yes. A covered visit to Sudley Road, from an imaging appointment to a follow-up after discharge, costs the member nothing, but the trip is booked through Medicaid rather than our dispatch. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride.
