Wheelchair Transportation in Gainesville, VA

Our dispatch office is in Gainesville, and from here riders head three ways for care: up Heathcote Boulevard to UVA Health Haymarket, southeast to Manassas, or east on I-66 toward Fair Oaks. For a rider who uses a wheelchair, the driver comes to the door, brings them aboard on a ramp or lift, secures the chair, and walks them inside at the other end.

We pick up in Gainesville, Haymarket, Bristow and Heritage Hunt and along Heathcote Boulevard and Linton Hall Road. Wheelchair round trips start at $55 per leg. Our Virginia DMV Certificate #524 covers Prince William and the rest of Virginia, and WMATC authority 3449 carries a trip into DC or to Montgomery or Prince George’s County; long-distance trips are priced on the card. Call (703) 304-7889 at any hour or request a trip online; stretcher and ambulatory service are on our Gainesville medical transportation page.

Gainesville wheelchair rides, door to door

A Gainesville pickup might be a house past the Heritage Hunt gate, a townhouse off Linton Hall Road in Bristow, or the front desk at Heritage Village or Harper’s Station. The driver comes to the door, with a stair chair team if the rider can’t manage the steps, and the rider stays in the wheelchair from there: up a minivan’s ramp or a full-size van’s lift, strapped at four points, and belted at the lap and shoulder.

Scooters, power chairs and manual chairs are all welcome and all tied down, and a rider without a suitable chair can use one of ours free. One companion rides at no charge, and service animals are welcome aboard.

At UVA Health Haymarket the driver takes the rider in through the main lobby or to the Heathcote Health Center, and at Fresenius on Heritage Village Plaza or DaVita Haymarket on Gap Way, to the chair. Every driver is CPR and first-aid certified, trained to secure manual and power chairs, and cleared through a criminal background check and drug screening. Drivers start the day from home across the region rather than from the dispatch office here. H&M Transport was the first NEMT provider in Virginia to be accredited by NEMTAC, which audits driver training, wheelchair securement and vehicles.

UVA Health Haymarket, Manassas and the I-66 hospitals

UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center at 15225 Heathcote Boulevard, once branded Novant, is the closest hospital for most riders. Parking around the building is free. The main lobby is open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends, and we time appointment drop-offs to those hours. The outpatient Heathcote Health Center shares the campus, so tell us which building.

UVA Health Prince William Medical Center on Sudley Road in Manassas is about 20 to 25 minutes south via I-66 and Route 234. Its main lobby keeps the same 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. hours. Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax is the usual stop for riders going east on I-66. Riders in western Haymarket often use Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, and StoneSprings Hospital Center is a run up Route 15 and across Route 50.

Our regular wheelchair schedule includes residents of Heritage Village Assisted Living and Memory Care on Heathcote Boulevard, Harper’s Station of Gainesville on Loves Mill Lane, Gainesville Health & Rehab Center and Lake Manassas Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Dialysis rides in Gainesville

We run standing wheelchair schedules for Gainesville, Haymarket and Bristow riders, including to:

  • DaVita Haymarket Dialysis, 14664 Gap Way, Gainesville
  • Fresenius Kidney Care Gainesville, 7001 Heritage Village Plaza, Ste 150, Gainesville
  • DaVita Bull Run Dialysis, 9420 Forestwood Ln, Manassas
  • DaVita CDC Manassas Dialysis, 10655 Lomond Dr, Manassas
  • Fresenius Kidney Care Manassas, 9302 W Courthouse Rd, Manassas
  • Fresenius Kidney Care Warrenton, 170 W Shirley Ave, Ste 100, Warrenton

Two centers are right in Gainesville, DaVita Haymarket on Gap Way and Fresenius on Heritage Village Plaza beside Heritage Hunt, and others are in Manassas and Warrenton. We take the chair days and times once and run them as a standing order. When a session runs over, the ride home becomes a will-call: the van reaches the center within 45 minutes of your call, and calling a little before treatment ends shortens the wait.

OmniRide Access, Wheels-to-Wellness or a private van?

OmniRide Access is Prince William County’s ADA paratransit. It serves addresses within three-quarters of a mile of an OmniRide Local route, so whether a Gainesville or Haymarket address qualifies depends on how close it is to one, and riders go through an eligibility review and receive an Access ID card first. Trips are booked from the next service day up to 14 days ahead, with no same-day rides, and in the western county there’s no Sunday service.

MetroAccess doesn’t reach Prince William County. Wheels-to-Wellness, from OmniRide and the county, helps residents who are 80 or older, have a disability, or have a limited income and no Medicaid transportation get to health appointments in a contracted cab or wheelchair-accessible vehicle, for a $4 co-pay each way plus any fare above the program’s share.

The van is for what those programs leave out: an address away from the bus routes, a Sunday or same-day ride, a discharge from UVA Health Haymarket, help from inside the home, a fixed appointment time, or a trip to Fairfax, Arlington, DC, Montgomery or Prince George’s County.

Pickup tips for Gainesville homes and campuses

  • Heritage Hunt is gated with one entry point. Have the resident’s name and address ready when you book, and we allow time at the gate.
  • Heritage Village Plaza, home to Fresenius Gainesville and Gainesville Health & Rehab Center, is next to Heritage Hunt but outside the gate. The driver goes straight to the plaza.
  • Harper’s Station has a separate memory care building, and the Haymarket hospital has the Heathcote Health Center beside it. Tell us the building and the door.
  • Steps at home. Tell us the count and whether there is a railing. If a wheelchair rider cannot manage them, a stair chair team adds $75 each way.

Covering a Gainesville ride

Virginia Medicaid. A Virginia Medicaid member doesn’t pay for a ride to covered medical care, and the trip is booked through the plan rather than directly with us. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride. Routine appointments need several business days’ notice; our Virginia Medicaid transportation guide has the steps.

Medicare. Original Medicare doesn’t cover wheelchair vans and pays for an ambulance only when it’s medically necessary. For a Medicare Advantage plan whose ride benefit is administered by MTM Health or SafeRide Health, book through the plan and name H&M Transport.

Private pay and facilities. Families who pay directly pay the published rates and need no doctor’s order. Hospitals, rehab centers and senior communities book on contracted rates; see our facilities page.

Booking from Gainesville: notice, notes and changes

Give dispatch three hours’ notice for a same-day ride or a discharge from UVA Health Haymarket, and book a day ahead to be sure of the van. Phone (703) 304-7889 for anything today; you’ll have a confirming call or text within two hours of booking.

Use the notes for the Heritage Hunt gate, the building at Harper’s Station or on the hospital campus, the appointment and its expected length, and the steps at home. Riders over 300 lbs need bariatric service.

You can cancel or change at no charge more than two hours before pickup; after that, or for a no-show, the fee is $50. Phone, email Reservations@hmtransport.com or use our app.

Wheelchair transportation in Gainesville: common questions

What does a round trip from Heritage Hunt to UVA Health Haymarket cost?

$110. The hospital is about three miles from Heritage Hunt, well within the five miles included on each leg. Beyond five miles, each leg adds $3.00 a mile, and one way is $90 plus $3.00 a mile.

Will Virginia Medicaid pay for a wheelchair ride from Gainesville?

For covered medical care, such as dialysis on Gap Way or a visit to UVA Health Haymarket, yes, and the member pays nothing; the ride is arranged through Medicaid’s broker, not booked with us. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride.

Does OmniRide Access serve Gainesville?

It serves addresses within three-quarters of a mile of an OmniRide Local route, so some Gainesville and Haymarket addresses qualify and others don’t; ask OmniRide about yours. We need no certification, can take a same-day ride on three hours’ notice, and run on Sundays.

Do you pick up at UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center?

Yes, for appointments and discharges, with three hours’ notice for a discharge. Tell us the unit, or whether it’s the Heathcote Health Center next door, and the driver comes in for the rider.

Can you run dialysis rides to Fresenius Gainesville or DaVita Haymarket?

Yes, as a standing order: the chair days and times go in once and repeat each week. When treatment runs past its slot, call for a will-call return; the van is at the center within 45 minutes, and calling shortly before the end shortens the wait.

Can you take a Heritage Hunt resident to Inova Fair Oaks or a Fairfax specialist?

Yes. Trips east on I-66 are routine, and Fairfax County rides run under our Virginia DMV Certificate #524. Inova Fair Oaks is about 18 miles from Gainesville, or $188 round trip.

What we leave to ambulances

We drive riders; we don’t treat them. There’s no medical monitoring or care on board, the van won’t take anyone to an emergency room, and moving a patient to another hospital for a higher level of care calls for an ambulance. If this is a medical emergency, call 911. If a rider becomes unwell, the driver stops safely and calls 911. When a rider can’t sit upright for the length of the trip, book stretcher transportation.
