Where we take Haymarket riders

UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center on Heathcote Boulevard is the anchor, and for most of this area it is the closest hospital by a wide margin. Appointments all week, outpatient procedures, and discharges most days. Haymarket Surgery Center next door accounts for a steady stream of day procedures — and most surgery centers will not discharge a patient who has had sedation to a rideshare, which is the clearest reason to book transport before the day rather than on it.

UVA Health Prince William Medical Center in Manassas takes the care Haymarket doesn’t cover, and it’s a short run for us.

For dialysis we run to DaVita Haymarket Dialysis and Fresenius Kidney Care Heritage Hunt, three days a week for most patients on those schedules.

The senior and rehab communities carry much of the recurring volume — Heritage Hunt, The Wellington at Lake Manassas, Lake Manassas Health & Rehabilitation and Gainesville Health and Rehab. A crew running one trip in that cluster often has another on the same loop.

Farther out, Haymarket riders go to Fairfax for Inova specialty care, west to Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, and into the District. Our Virginia DMV Certificate #524 covers Virginia, and WMATC authority 3449 covers DC, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.

Which ride fits a Haymarket trip

We choose the vehicle by how the rider moves, not how far the trip is.

Ambulatory. For riders who walk, with or without a cane. The driver meets them at the door and walks with them into UVA Health Haymarket or the clinic.

Wheelchair. The rider stays seated in the chair, which goes up a ramp or lift and is strapped at four points; we bring a chair if needed. See our wheelchair transportation service.

Stretcher. For a rider who must lie flat, such as a move from UVA Health Haymarket to Lake Manassas Health & Rehabilitation. Two crew members handle it bed to bed.

Bariatric. Riders over 300 lbs get weight-rated equipment and a second crew member when needed. Fewer vans carry it, so book early.

Pickup in Haymarket and Gainesville

This is newer single-family and townhouse country, with a golf-course community or two mixed in, and the pickup problems are different from a city’s.

Driveways are the good case — level ground, room for a ramp, no parking question. Where the drive is steep or gravel, tell us. A ramp needs level ground to deploy safely, and a steep drive can mean parking on the street and covering the last stretch on foot.

Gated communities — Heritage Hunt and the Lake Manassas communities among them — need a gate code or a call-ahead. Tell us at booking and the crew handles it. Without it a driver sits at a gate while your appointment time passes.

Townhouse developments in Bristow and the newer Gainesville neighborhoods often have rear-loading garages and front doors on a common walk rather than a street. Tell us whether to come to the front walk or the garage side, and give us the unit number.

Rural addresses out toward Catharpin, Thoroughfare and the Route 15 corridor sometimes have long gravel drives. Gravel on a slope is not level ground. Tell us and the crew will plan where to stop.

Mention any steps at the house and whether the stairway turns. If a rider in a wheelchair has to come down them, our stair chair team joins the trip for $75 each way.

Dialysis and standing orders

Haymarket dialysis riders travel three times a week all year, so those trips get the most care in our planning.

In and around Haymarket we run to DaVita Haymarket Dialysis and Fresenius Kidney Care Heritage Hunt, and for riders who travel toward Manassas, DaVita Bull Run Dialysis and Fresenius Kidney Care Prince William County.

Set the chair days once as a standing order. If a session runs late, call for a will-call return and a driver arrives within 45 minutes; a call a little before treatment ends means less waiting. More on our dialysis transportation page.

Riders can come off treatment drained or unsteady, so on the ride home the driver takes the transfer slowly.

Booking and costs in Haymarket

Phone (703) 304-7889 any hour or book online. We take same-day trips and discharges with three hours’ notice; a booking a day ahead is guaranteed, and we confirm by call or text within two hours. Changes are free more than two hours before pickup, otherwise $50, and $50 for a no-show.

Virginia Medicaid. A Medicaid member’s ride to covered care is free and is arranged through Medicaid, not through our dispatch. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride. Rates. Wheelchair and ambulatory round trips cost $55 a leg with five miles included, and stretcher round trips $230 a leg. From Heritage Hunt to an appointment at UVA Health Haymarket, a little over three miles each way, a wheelchair round trip is $110. Original Medicare doesn’t pay for these vans; a Medicare Advantage plan with a ride benefit run by MTM Health or SafeRide Health can send us the trip. The full rate card is on our rates page.

How quickly can you get here?

Often the same day, since several of our drivers start near Haymarket. With three hours’ notice we cover most requests.

How far ahead should I book from Haymarket?

Three hours for a same-day trip or discharge; a day ahead and the ride is guaranteed. Stretcher and bariatric trips go better with more notice.

Do you serve Heritage Hunt and the gated communities?

Yes, regularly. Give us the gate code or tell us who to call at the gate when you book — that one detail is the difference between arriving on time and sitting outside.

Can you go from Haymarket into DC?

Yes. WMATC authority 3449 covers trips into the District, Virginia DMV Certificate #524 covers the Haymarket side, and since it’s a longer drive, booking ahead helps.

Does Virginia Medicaid cover rides from Haymarket?

Yes, for covered care such as dialysis at DaVita Haymarket, and the member pays nothing; Medicaid arranges the ride instead of our dispatch. Are you accredited?

Yes. H&M Transport became the first NEMTAC-accredited NEMT provider in Virginia; the standards cover driver training, vehicles, securement and how incidents are handled.

Trips outside our service

We run rides to scheduled appointments and home again, and nobody on board gives medical care.

That means no monitoring, no trips to an emergency room, and no transfers to another hospital for a higher level of care; those belong to an ambulance. Scheduled moves for stable patients, such as UVA Health Haymarket to a rehab center, are part of our work. If a rider becomes unwell, the driver stops safely and calls 911.
