Wheelchair Transportation in Manassas, VA

Manassas sits next door to our dispatch office in Gainesville. For a family member who uses a wheelchair, we send a van with a ramp or lift and a driver who comes to the front door, takes the rider to UVA Health Prince William, a practice on Sudley Road or a dialysis chair, and walks them inside.

Pickups cover the City of Manassas, Manassas Park, Bristow, Nokesville and the rest of western Prince William County. A wheelchair round trip starts at $55 per leg. Our Virginia DMV Certificate #524 covers the Virginia side, and WMATC authority 3449 lets the same booking continue into DC or to Montgomery or Prince George’s County. Call dispatch at (703) 304-7889 day or night, or request a trip online; riders who walk and stretcher patients are covered on our Manassas medical transportation page.

From the door to the chair: a Manassas wheelchair ride

The driver parks where the ramp can come down on level ground, whether that’s a driveway in Bristow, a numbered space at a Manassas Park townhouse or the main drive at Birmingham Green, and walks to the door to meet the rider. If the home has steps the rider can’t manage, a stair chair team comes too. The chair rolls up the minivan’s ramp or onto a full-size van’s hydraulic lift, four tie-downs hold it to the floor, and the rider is belted at the lap and shoulder before the van leaves.

Power chairs, manual chairs and scooters all travel secured, and when the rider’s own chair isn’t right for the trip, we bring one at no charge. One family member or caregiver can come along free, and a service animal is welcome.

At UVA Health Prince William the driver takes the rider in through the entrance that’s open at that hour, and at DaVita on Lomond Drive or Fresenius on West Courthouse Road, all the way to the chair. Our drivers are CPR and first-aid certified, trained to secure manual and power chairs, and cleared through a criminal background check and drug screening. Dispatch runs from Gainesville and drivers keep their vans at home, so a Manassas pickup rarely means a long run to reach you. NEMTAC, which audits driver training, securement and vehicles, accredited H&M Transport before any other NEMT provider in Virginia.

Hospitals and campuses on the Manassas schedule

UVA Health Prince William Medical Center at 8700 Sudley Road is the local hospital and a regular Manassas destination for us. Parking is free around the clock and valet is available. The main lobby entrance is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.; outside those hours, the emergency and admitting entrance is the way in, so early-morning procedures and late discharges are arranged around that door.

UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center on Heathcote Boulevard is the other hospital close by. Its physician offices and outpatient surgery center use a separate entrance at 15195 Heathcote Boulevard, so tell us which building the appointment is in. Kaiser Permanente’s Manassas medical center on Rosemary Drive is a regular outpatient stop for Kaiser members.

We also run a steady schedule to and from Birmingham Green on Centreville Road, a 54-acre campus with nursing care, assisted living, rehabilitation and memory care, and to the outpatient practices along Sudley Road and Wellington Road. For specialist care, we take Manassas riders to Inova Fairfax, Inova Fair Oaks and hospitals in DC.

Dialysis rides in Manassas

Two dialysis centers serve Manassas directly, and we run standing schedules to both:

  • DaVita CDC Manassas Dialysis, 10655 Lomond Dr
  • Fresenius Kidney Care Manassas, 9302 W Courthouse Rd

Some Manassas riders choose a center in Chantilly, Centreville or Woodbridge because its chair times fit better, and the van goes wherever the chair is. We book the three treatment days once, as a standing order. When a session runs past its slot, call for the return as a will-call: the van reaches the center within 45 minutes of your call, and a call a little before the session ends shortens the wait.

Wheelchair transportation prices in Manassas

Every Manassas fare has two parts, a pick-up fee and a per-mile charge, and both come from the 2026 private-pay card below.

Trip type Pick-up fee Included miles Per mile after
Round trip $55 per leg 5 per leg $3.00
One way or discharge $90 None $3.00
Bariatric round trip (300 lb+) $100 per leg 5 per leg $3.00
Bariatric one way (300 lb+) $130 None $3.00
Long distance (50+ miles) $175 None $4.50

From the Manassas train depot on West Street to UVA Health Prince William is under two miles, so a round trip stays inside the five miles included on each leg: $110. Birmingham Green to the hospital is about two and a half miles, also $110. A discharge from UVA Health Prince William home to Nokesville, about nine miles, is $90 plus $27, or $117. Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is about 13 miles from Old Town: $55 plus eight miles at $3.00 makes $79 a leg, or $158 round trip.

Some trips carry an extra charge, and we name it when we quote: $75 each way for a stair chair team, $30 when pickup is before 7am or after 6pm, $75 an hour if the driver waits through the appointment, $20 for a second stop, and $35 for each 2-liter oxygen tank, though a rider’s own portable unit costs nothing. Cards add 3%, cash is fine, personal checks aren’t accepted, and an itemized receipt is yours on request. See the full card on our rates page.

Wheelchair van or OmniRide Access?

OmniRide Access is Prince William’s ADA paratransit service, for addresses within three-quarters of a mile of an OmniRide Local route. Riders apply for eligibility and an ID card first, then book from the next service day up to 14 days ahead; there are no same-day trips, and the western service runs weekdays and Saturdays only, with no Sunday rides. The local fare is zero for now.

MetroAccess isn’t an option here, because WMATA’s published service area doesn’t reach Manassas or Manassas Park. Wheels-to-Wellness, sponsored by OmniRide and Prince William County, helps residents of the county, Manassas and Manassas Park who are 80 or older, have a disability, or have a limited income and no Medicaid transportation: they book a contracted cab or wheelchair-accessible vehicle for health visits and pay a $4 co-pay each way, plus any fare above the program’s share.

Book the van when a program can’t do the job: the address is off the bus routes, it’s Sunday or today, the patient is leaving UVA Health Prince William, someone has to help from inside the house, the appointment time is fixed, or the destination is Fairfax, Arlington, DC, Montgomery or Prince George’s County.

Pickup tips for Manassas homes

  • Townhouse communities across Manassas and Manassas Park often have steps at the front door and parking that is numbered or permit-only. Tell us the step count and where the van can stop.
  • Newer single-family neighborhoods toward Bristow and Linton Hall are usually straightforward. What matters is a level spot for the ramp and a clear path from the door.
  • Rural addresses toward Nokesville may have long gravel drives. Tell us, and the driver will judge where the ramp can go down safely.
  • Facilities. At Birmingham Green, visitor parking is to the left at the stop sign along the main drive; tell us the building, and the driver meets the rider at the right door.

Who covers the fare in Manassas

Virginia Medicaid. A rider on Virginia Medicaid who is going to a covered medical service pays nothing, and the trip is arranged through the plan rather than with us. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride. Leave several business days for routine appointments; our Virginia Medicaid transportation guide walks through it.

Medicare. Original Medicare doesn’t pay for a wheelchair van; it pays for an ambulance only when one is medically necessary. If a Medicare Advantage plan’s ride benefit is administered by MTM Health or SafeRide Health, book through the plan and ask for H&M Transport by name.

Private pay and facilities. Families paying for themselves pay the published rates, and no doctor’s order is needed. Hospitals, nursing facilities and senior communities book on contracted rates; see our facilities page.

Notice, details and cancelling

A same-day ride or a discharge needs three hours’ notice at minimum, and booking the day before guarantees the van. Same-day requests are phoned in to dispatch at (703) 304-7889, and you’ll get a confirming call or text within two hours of booking.

Put the details in the notes: the door or building to use, the parking rules at a townhouse, the appointment and how long it lasts, and the number of steps. Book bariatric service for riders over 300 lbs.

Changes and cancellations are free more than two hours before pickup; after that, or if no one is there at pickup, it’s $50. Phone, email Reservations@hmtransport.com or use the app.

Wheelchair transportation in Manassas: common questions

What does a round trip from Old Town Manassas to UVA Health Prince William cost?

$110. The hospital is under two miles from the train depot, so each leg stays inside the five included miles. Past five miles a leg adds $3.00 a mile, and a one-way ride is $90 plus $3.00 a mile.

Does MetroAccess serve Manassas?

No. WMATA’s published MetroAccess service area doesn’t reach Manassas, Manassas Park or Prince William County. Riders near an OmniRide Local route can apply for OmniRide Access; for every other trip, a private van fills the gap.

Can you pick up a discharge from UVA Health Prince William Medical Center?

Yes, with three hours notice. After 8 p.m. the main lobby is closed and the pickup is at the emergency and admitting entrance, so tell us the unit and we coordinate the handoff.

How fast can you get a wheelchair van in Manassas?

Give dispatch three hours for a same-day ride and it’s usually covered, because the vans start the day across the area rather than at one depot. Book a day ahead and the van is guaranteed.

Can you take Manassas riders to Fairfax, Arlington or DC?

Yes. Fairfax and Arlington are Virginia trips under our Virginia DMV Certificate #524; DC, Montgomery County and Prince George’s County are covered by WMATC authority 3449. Same rates either way.

Can you take a Birmingham Green resident to appointments?

Yes. Tell us the building on the campus and the appointment, and the driver meets the rider at that building’s door, then takes them in at the clinic or the hospital.

Will Virginia Medicaid pay for a wheelchair van to UVA Health Prince William?

Yes, when the visit is covered medical care: the ride costs the member nothing, and it’s arranged through Medicaid’s transportation broker instead of booked with us. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride.

Emergencies and riders who must lie down

A wheelchair van carries riders; it doesn’t treat them. There’s no medical monitoring on board, the van won’t go to an emergency room, and a move to another hospital for a higher level of care needs an ambulance. If this is a medical emergency, call 911. If a rider becomes unwell, the driver stops safely and calls 911. When a rider can’t stay upright for the whole trip, book stretcher transportation.
