Wheelchair Transportation in Chantilly, VA

Chantilly and Centreville sit between our Gainesville base and the Fairfax medical corridor, which puts our wheelchair vans close by for most of the day. If someone in your family uses a wheelchair and needs to get to an appointment, a discharge or dialysis, we send a van the chair rolls into and a driver who comes to the door, secures the chair and takes the rider inside at the other end.

We pick up across Chantilly, Centreville, South Riding, Fair Lakes, Clifton and the Route 50 and Route 28 corridors. Wheelchair trips start at $55 per leg on a round trip. To book, request a trip online or call (703) 304-7889. For stretcher and ambulatory service, see our Chantilly and Centreville medical transportation page.

What our wheelchair service includes in Chantilly

Every trip is door-through-door. The driver comes to the door of the home, the apartment or the facility room, helps the rider out, and at the other end takes them inside to the check-in desk or the dialysis chair rather than leaving them at the curb.

  • The rider stays in the chair. The chair goes up a ramp on our minivans or a hydraulic lift on our full-size vans, is strapped to the floor at four points, and the rider wears a lap and shoulder belt. Nobody is lifted into a car seat.
  • Your chair or ours. We secure manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and scooters. If the rider does not own a suitable chair, we bring one at no extra cost.
  • Trained, screened drivers. Drivers are trained in passenger assistance and wheelchair securement, and every employee passes a criminal background check and drug screening.
  • A companion seat. A family member or caregiver can usually ride along; tell us when you book.
  • Accredited. H&M Transport was the first NEMT provider in Virginia to earn NEMTAC accreditation, which audits driver training, securement procedure and vehicle standards.

Where we take wheelchair riders from Chantilly

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital on Joseph Siewick Drive is the closest hospital and our most frequent destination here. Parking is free for all patients and visitors, the campus has separate main and emergency entrances and a hospital garage, and the medical office buildings along the same street, including Inova Schar Cancer at 3650 Joseph Siewick Drive, are regular stops for our riders. Tell us the building and the driver stops at the right door.

For other hospital care, Chantilly riders go to StoneSprings Hospital Center on Stone Springs Boulevard, to Inova Fairfax Hospital on Gallows Road, and west to UVA Health Prince William Medical Center on Sudley Road, where parking is free and the main lobby is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

We also run a steady schedule to Fair Oaks Health & Rehabilitation on Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, and for residents of Sunrise at Fair Oaks, on the same street as the hospital, and Brightview Fair Oaks on Lee Highway.

Dialysis rides from Chantilly and Centreville

We run standing dialysis schedules for Chantilly and Centreville riders to:

  • DaVita Chantilly Dialysis, 14225 Sullyfield Cir
  • DaVita Stone Ridge Dialysis, 24640 Southpoint Dr, just across the Loudoun line
  • U.S. Renal Care Fairfax, 3930 Walnut St, and Legacy Dialysis of Fairfax, 10565 Fairfax Blvd, for riders on the Centreville and Fairfax side

A standing order keeps the three-day schedule on our books without rebooking each week. Because our dispatch is next door in Gainesville, the same drivers usually cover the same Chantilly riders. See also dialysis transportation.

Wheelchair van or MetroAccess, FASTRAN and TOPS?

Fairfax County residents have several public options, and for some trips they are the right choice. MetroAccess, Metro’s ADA paratransit service, serves Fairfax County for trips near Metro and bus routes. It requires an application and an in-person assessment, trips are booked a day or more ahead with no same-day service, rides are shared, and the pickup comes within a 30-minute window. Current MetroAccess customers may have some trips moved to its Abilities-Ride program at a flat fare, but those rides are also curb-to-curb and not same-day.

Fairfax County’s FASTRAN carries residents certified through participating county programs, and its Critical Medical Care Program takes riders to dialysis, chemotherapy, radiation and physical therapy for an income-based fare, on a space-available basis. The county’s TOPS program, which replaced Seniors on the Go in 2021, subsidizes taxi and rideshare fares on a debit card for eligible older adults and people with disabilities; its waitlist closed in August 2025, so check current status with the county.

A private wheelchair van covers what those programs are not built for: a same-day ride or hospital discharge, help from inside the home to the check-in desk, an exact appointment time rather than a window, a trip into DC or Maryland, or a rider who has not been certified.

Pickup tips for Chantilly and Centreville homes

  • Townhouse communities in Centreville and South Riding often have steps at the front door and parking in shared lots. Tell us the step count and where the van can stop.
  • Apartment complexes along Route 29 and in Fair Lakes can have several buildings on one address. Give us the building number and entrance.
  • Senior communities. At Sunrise at Fair Oaks or Brightview Fair Oaks, tell us the pickup point and whether to check in at the front desk.
  • Route 28 and I-66 slow down at predictable hours. We build that into the pickup time for trips to Fairfax, Reston and Arlington.

Who pays for a wheelchair ride in Chantilly

Medicaid. If the rider is a Virginia Medicaid member and the trip is to a covered medical service, the ride should cost them nothing, and it is not booked directly with us. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride. See our Virginia Medicaid transportation guide. Plan ahead: Medicaid transportation generally needs several business days’ notice for routine appointments.

Medicare. Original Medicare does not cover a wheelchair van. Some Medicare Advantage plans include a limited transportation benefit, usually a set number of trips a year; if yours does, book through the plan and ask for H&M Transport by name.

Private pay and facilities. Families booking directly pay the published rates above, and the quote is what you pay. Hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and senior communities book on contracted rates; see our facilities page.

Booking, notice and cancellations

  • Same-day requests: call (703) 304-7889 and speak with dispatch.
  • Notice: we need a minimum of three hours notice for same-day requests and discharges. Booking 24 hours ahead guarantees availability.
  • Trip details: use the notes field for the entrance, the building or unit number, the appointment type, how long it should run, and the number of steps at the home.
  • Stairs: when a rider in a wheelchair has to go up or down steps, we send a stair chair team, which adds $75 each way.
  • Weight: for riders over 300 lbs, select bariatric service.
  • Changes and cancellations: cancel or change at least two hours before pickup to avoid a fee, by phone, by email at Reservations@hmtransport.com, or in our mobile app.

What a wheelchair van is not

This is non-emergency transportation. There is no medical care or monitoring on board, we do not take anyone to an emergency room, and we do not move patients between hospitals for a higher level of care. Those are ambulance trips. If this is a medical emergency, call 911. If the rider cannot sit upright for the length of the trip, book stretcher transportation instead.
