Wheelchair transportation in Reston: common questions
What does a wheelchair round trip from Lake Anne to Reston Hospital Center cost?
$110, because the hospital is inside the five miles included on each leg. Longer trips add $3.00 a mile per leg past five, and one way is $90 plus $3.00 a mile.
Will Virginia Medicaid cover a Reston wheelchair ride?
For a covered medical trip, such as dialysis at U.S. Renal Care on Pinecrest Road or a visit to the Pavilion at Reston Hospital Center, it should, and the plan books the ride rather than us. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride.
Which entrance do you use at Reston Hospital Center?
Pavilion I or II, across from Garage B, for appointments in the medical office buildings; the West Wing, across from Garage A, for inpatient and rehab discharges. Either way, the driver takes the rider in to the desk.
Can you take a Reston rider into DC or Maryland?
Yes. WMATC authority 3449 covers trips into DC and Montgomery and Prince George’s counties at our usual prices, and Virginia DMV Certificate #524 covers the Virginia side.
Can you bring a rider home from the rehab unit at Reston Hospital Center?
Yes, with three hours’ notice. Give us the unit and room; the driver collects the rider at the West Wing and takes them inside at home.
Can a rider going to the Pavilion stay in their own power chair?
Yes. Power chairs, manual chairs and scooters ride locked down at four points, and if the rider’s chair isn’t suitable we bring one. Tell us how long the appointment runs so the driver can plan the return.
Can you handle a three-day dialysis schedule at U.S. Renal Care on Pinecrest Road?
Yes. Give us the days and chair times once and they stay on the books, whether the chair is at U.S. Renal Care, Legacy Dialysis on Preston White Drive or DaVita in Herndon. If treatment runs long, the ride home becomes a will-call, with a driver at the center within 45 minutes of your call; calling a little before the end shortens the wait.
