Wheelchair Transportation in Leesburg, VA

Leesburg wheelchair trips mostly run between two parts of town: downtown, with the Inova Cornwall campus, DaVita Leesburg and two nursing centers, and Lansdowne, with Inova Loudoun Hospital and DaVita Lansdowne on Riverside Parkway. Our driver comes to the door, takes the rider up a ramp or lift, secures the chair and walks them in at the far end.

We pick up in Leesburg, Lansdowne, Purcellville and Hamilton, and wheelchair trips start at $55 per leg on a round trip. Loudoun trips run under our Virginia DMV Certificate #524, while WMATC authority 3449 covers the run into DC or to Montgomery or Prince George’s County, so one booking covers the whole trip. Dispatch answers (703) 304-7889 at any hour, or you can request a trip online; for stretcher and ambulatory service, see our Leesburg medical transportation page.

Door to door in Leesburg: how the ride goes

Downtown pickups are often older houses with front steps or a narrow walk, many Lansdowne pickups are senior buildings with a desk or a gatehouse, and western Loudoun can mean a long driveway. Wherever it is, the driver comes to the door and brings the rider out, with a stair chair team if the steps call for one. The rider stays in the wheelchair, rolled up a minivan ramp or raised on a full-size van’s lift, strapped down at four points and belted at the lap and shoulder.

Manual chairs, power chairs and scooters are all secured; if the rider’s chair won’t suit the trip, we bring one at no extra cost. One family member or caregiver rides free, and service animals ride too.

On the Lansdowne campus the driver walks the rider into the hospital or to the department desk; on Cornwall Street, into the building the appointment is in; at DaVita Leesburg or DaVita Lansdowne, to the chair. Every driver is CPR and first-aid certified, trained to secure manual and power chairs, and has passed a criminal background check and drug screening. Drivers start from home across the region, not from the Gainesville dispatch office. NEMTAC accredited H&M Transport ahead of every other NEMT provider in Virginia, and its audit looks at driver training, wheelchair securement and the vehicles themselves.

Leesburg’s two hospital campuses and the communities we serve

Inova Loudoun Hospital at 44045 Riverside Parkway in Lansdowne is a regular stop for us. Visitor parking is free in the North Garage and the North and South surface lots, and a door drop-off saves the walk from any of them. The hospital sits across the street from Lansdowne Woods.

Downtown, the Inova Loudoun Hospital Cornwall Campus at 224 Cornwall Street NW is a separate site with behavioral health, imaging and rehab services. Families sometimes say “Inova Loudoun” for either campus, so we confirm which one before the trip. Farther afield, StoneSprings Hospital Center lies south of Leesburg off Route 50 near South Riding, and Reston Hospital Center is roughly 25 to 35 minutes east via Route 7 or the Dulles Greenway.

Senior communities fill much of the schedule: Lansdowne Woods of Virginia and Ashleigh at Lansdowne, Heritage Hall on Morven Park Road and Loudoun Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Old Waterford Road. East along Route 7 we serve Falcons Landing in Potomac Falls and Ashby Ponds in Ashburn.

Dialysis rides in Leesburg

We run standing wheelchair schedules for Leesburg, Lansdowne and western Loudoun riders, including to:

  • DaVita Leesburg Virginia Dialysis, 224D Cornwall St NW, Leesburg
  • DaVita Lansdowne Dialysis, 44084 Riverside Pkwy, Leesburg
  • Pure Life Renal of Lansdowne, 19490 Sandridge Way, Ste 140, Leesburg
  • Legacy Dialysis of Virginia, 211 Gibson St NW, Ste 209, Leesburg
  • DaVita Ashburn Dialysis, 19980 Highland Vista Dr, Ste 100, Ashburn

DaVita Leesburg is on the Cornwall campus downtown, and DaVita Lansdowne is a short way along Riverside Parkway from the hospital. Their chair days and times go on a standing order once. If a session overruns, the ride home becomes a will-call, with a van at the center within 45 minutes of your call; calling a little before the end shortens the wait. Pickups before 7am or after 6pm carry the $30 after-hours charge.

Wheelchair transportation prices in Leesburg

Leesburg trips are billed from our 2026 private-pay card: a fee for the pick-up, then a rate for each mile.

Round trip $55 per leg 5 per leg $3.00
One way or discharge $90 None $3.00

Bariatric one way (300 lb+) $130 None $3.00

Lansdowne Woods sits across the street from Inova Loudoun Hospital, so a round trip there stays well inside the five miles included on each leg: $110. From Main Street in Purcellville to the Cornwall campus downtown is about ten miles each way: $55 plus five miles at $3.00, or $70 a leg and $140 round trip. A discharge home from Inova Loudoun to Hamilton, about 14 miles, is $90 plus $42, so $132.

Extras come with a price before you book: a stair chair team, $75 each way; an early or late pickup (before 7am, after 6pm), $30; prescheduled waiting, $75 an hour; an extra stop, $20; oxygen, $35 for each 2-liter tank, or no charge with the rider’s own portable unit. Cash and cards both work, cards with 3% added; we don’t take personal checks, and we’ll itemize a receipt if you ask. The rates page lists everything.

Wheelchair van or LC Transit and Loudoun’s volunteer programs?

Loudoun has several public options, and some are free. LC Transit Paratransit serves residents whose disability keeps them off the local bus: it needs an approved application, is fare-free, is booked one to five days ahead, and runs on the local routes’ days and hours. Riders between Leesburg and western Fairfax County apply through ADA Ride, and Purcellville riders use Virginia Regional Transit for the run into Leesburg.

LC Transit On Demand is a fare-free pilot inside a Leesburg zone: riders book the same day or a day ahead, board at the nearest bus stop or a virtual stop in the app, and can’t ride outside the zone. CareNET covers medical rides at no cost for uninsured residents within its income limit, booked by a case manager two to three days ahead. Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers runs the Care-A-Van, a wheelchair-accessible van with a volunteer riding along, for homebound adults and adults with disabilities who have no other way to get to appointments, and the county’s Mobility Assistance Program (703-771-5665, option 2) helps older adults and people with disabilities find a transportation option.

A private van fills the gaps those services leave: a same-day ride or a discharge on three hours’ notice, a pickup at any hour, a fixed appointment time, door-through-door help, and trips anywhere in Virginia, DC, Montgomery or Prince George’s County with no application.

Pickup tips for Leesburg homes and campuses

  • Lansdowne Woods has a gatehouse staffed around the clock. The driver stops there first; tell us the building and the entrance.
  • Two Inova Loudoun campuses. Riverside Parkway in Lansdowne and Cornwall Street downtown are different places. Name the campus and the department.
  • Large senior campuses such as Ashby Ponds and Falcons Landing have several buildings. Give us the building name for every pickup.
  • Roads. Route 7 and the Dulles Greenway both link Leesburg with Ashburn, and Route 15 north of town has widening work ahead. We build traffic and work zones into the pickup time.

Covering the cost of a Leesburg ride

Virginia Medicaid. A covered medical trip shouldn’t cost a Virginia Medicaid member anything, and the ride is booked through the plan, not directly with us. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride. Routine appointments need several business days’ notice; see our Virginia Medicaid transportation guide.

Medicare. Original Medicare doesn’t pay for wheelchair vans, only for an ambulance when one is medically necessary. A Medicare Advantage plan whose ride benefit MTM Health or SafeRide Health administers can book us; go through the plan and ask for H&M Transport.

Private pay and facilities. Paying directly means the published rates and no doctor’s order. Hospitals, nursing centers and senior communities book on contracted rates through our facilities program.

Booking lead time and changes

Allow at least three hours for a same-day ride or a discharge from Inova Loudoun, and book a day ahead to guarantee it. Same-day requests go by phone to dispatch at (703) 304-7889, and every booking gets a confirming call or text within two hours.

The notes should name the campus and department, the gatehouse or entrance at a senior community, the appointment and its length, and the steps at the house. Book bariatric service for riders over 300 lbs.

There’s no fee to cancel or change more than two hours before pickup; inside two hours, or for a no-show, the fee is $50. Call, email Reservations@hmtransport.com or use our app.

Wheelchair transportation in Leesburg: common questions

What does a round trip from Lansdowne Woods to Inova Loudoun Hospital cost?

$110. The hospital is across the street, so both legs are inside the five included miles. Legs longer than five miles add $3.00 a mile, and one way is $90 plus $3.00 a mile.

Does Virginia Medicaid pay for a Leesburg rider’s wheelchair van?

For covered medical care, yes: a trip to the Lansdowne hospital, a Cornwall campus clinic or a dialysis chair costs the member nothing, and Medicaid’s broker books it instead of us. Call the transportation number on your Medicaid ID card; the brokers we work with are MTM Health and SafeRide Health. Request H&M Transport specifically when you book your ride.

Can you take a Leesburg rider into DC or Maryland?

Yes, into DC and to Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland. WMATC authority 3449 covers those trips and Virginia DMV Certificate #524 covers the Loudoun end.

How is this different from LC Transit paratransit or On Demand?

Paratransit needs an approved application and a booking at least a day ahead, and On Demand picks up at a bus stop or virtual stop inside its zone. We need no application, can usually take a same-day ride on three hours’ notice, and help the rider from inside the home.

Can you take a rider to an appointment on the Cornwall campus downtown?

Yes. Tell us the department and the building, because the Cornwall campus is a separate site from the hospital in Lansdowne, and the driver takes the rider in to the right desk.

Do you pick up at Lansdowne Woods?

Yes. The driver checks in at the gatehouse, which is staffed around the clock. Tell us the building and the entrance when you book.

Trips that need something other than a van

Our vans provide transportation, not care: nobody on board monitors or treats the rider, we don’t go to the emergency room, and a transfer between hospitals for a higher level of care is an ambulance trip. If this is a medical emergency, call 911. If a rider becomes unwell, the driver stops safely and calls 911. If the rider can’t sit up for the whole trip, book stretcher transportation instead.
